? FAQ – Stereo Microscopes

1. What is the difference between a stereo microscope and a transmitted light microscope?
A stereo microscope uses two separate, slightly angled optical paths, creating a spatial, 3D image – similar to natural binocular vision. In contrast, a transmitted light microscope produces a flat, 2D image via a vertical optical path. Stereo microscopes are ideal when depth perception is needed – for dissection, inspection or quality control.

2. What is a zoom stereo microscope suitable for?
Zoom stereo microscopes provide continuous magnification without changing objectives. This makes it easy to examine different sample sizes quickly and conveniently – particularly useful in electronics manufacturing, lab routines, or technical training.

3. Which illumination type is suitable – reflected light or transmitted light?
It depends on the sample: opaque specimens like components, insects or plants require reflected light; transparent samples like thin sections or cells need transmitted light. Many KERN stereo microscopes offer combined illumination for maximum flexibility.

4. Can I digitally expand a stereo microscope?
Yes – some models come in a trinocular version, allowing the connection of a digital camera. With suitable camera adapters, images can be captured, saved or displayed on screen in real time – ideal for training, documentation and presentations. We’ll gladly help you find the right model.

5. Which accessories are available?
Accessories include LED ring lights, spare objectives, digital camera attachments, ergonomic stands and calibration sets – allowing you to customize and expand your stereo microscope for the long term.
